Chambermates

A level playing field for advocates, in the best tradition of the Bar

The ideal of life in the Bar is that everyone is treated with dignity and respect. One may be a silk and another a pupil; but each is a member of the Bar, no more and no less.

This is a website for barristers to (1) share their knowledge with one another and (2) showcase their skills to the world.

Format of submissions

The format of submissions are as follows:

  • Hypothetical instructions from client
  • The barrister’s thinking process
  • Written work produced by the barrister in correct format as a downloadable Word file.
  • The cycle repeats (as appropriate) as the hypothetical case develops.

Guiding principles of the website

  • Open-Source software: built on publicly accessible codebase
  • Rights belong to authors: contributors retain full copyright and may withdraw their content at any time without reason. Note: Removed materials persist in historical code versions (which is available online), but are excluded from the live website.
  • Non-profit: maintained as a personal initiative by a Hong Kong barrister. Funding from advertisers will not be accepted.
  • No preferential treatment: there is no likes/comments mechanism. Inquiries are to be directed back to the original authors. Sorting will be based on neutral principles e.g. date, subject matter or author (by alphabetical order).

Call for submissions

Submissions (to jwong@dcc.law) are invited from:

  • Hong Kong qualified barristers
  • legal historians (reconstructing landmark historical cases for academic interest)

Technical-minded contributors may also make a direct pull-request to the Github repository.
